Career-defining projects. Exceptional training. A rich and varied working life. And all the benefits that go with it.

PACKAGE

When you join the Government Commercial Organisation (GCO), you get access to a unique benefits package that reflects the sector-leading work we do every day.

To attract the very best people into our team, we go beyond the typical Civil Service benefits package. Our base salaries range from £60,000 to £190,000 and we have performance-related bonuses of up to 20% as well as pension entitlement. You’ll get 25 days (plus public holidays) annual leave and an extra day for the Queen’s birthday – you also have the option to purchase additional time off if you need it.

We also provide support through challenging circumstances you may face in your personal life, including death in service payments and ill health benefit.

FLEXIBLE WORKING

Lifestyle-friendly hours are the norm here. You’ll have access to flexible working options like part-time hours, compressed hours, and job shares – whatever your circumstances, we’ll help support you to find the ideal balance. Depending on your role, you can also work from home and adopt flexible start and end times.

PROGRESSIVE TALENT MANAGEMENT

Becoming the best commercial function in the UK is a big ambition, so we’re committed to giving every member of our team the opportunity to progress their career while they work with us.

You’ll have access to sector-leading Career Coaches to help you achieve your long-term goals and ambitions. You’ll also get to create personalised development plans that get reviewed and refreshed regularly to make sure you’re always making the most the development opportunities available to you.

Want to explore a move to a different government department or interested in a secondment opportunity? We’ll work with you to put the wheels in motion.

INNOVATIVE LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT

We have a range of professional and personal development programmes that cater to your every need. Whether it’s helping to refine your commercial leadership skills or enhance your commercial judgement – we know that a one-size-fits-all approach to learning doesn’t work when you’re a diverse team with a wide range of skills and backgrounds. That’s why we let you pick and choose from one-to-one learning with a coach, hands-on learning, private studies via e-learning, or group workshop studies.

You’ll also have access to our online learning portal ‘The Government Commercial College’. We regularly update the portal with bespoke courses informed by the latest research and intelligence from our Assessment and Development Centre. Being a senior member of a commercial team shouldn’t stop you from having room to grow and develop as your career progresses.

Anyone taking part in the scheme who achieves MCIPS Chartered Status will enhance their credibility as a commercial and procurement expert within the department. You’ll be part of the world’s largest, global professional body, capable of upholding professional standards and codes, and will be assessed and accredited against a set of internationally recognised standards.
